Top 10 New Year’s Resolutions for 2018 | Lifestyle Guide

Whatever New Year’s resolution you plan on doing, willpower is the key to keeping it.

The New Year is when you reflect about the past, but more importantly think about the upcoming year. It is time to think about the changes you would like to make and commit yourself to seeing it through (or try to, at least)

Self-improvement, is a shared goal by all. Here, I list the top 10 New Year’s resolutions for 2018, how to start them and more importantly – keep them!

Improve your fitness in the New Year

We all know by now that regular exercise has a lot of health benefits. Study after study have shown that improving your physical fitness also helps to improve your mood and mentality – not to mention that it keeps your body looking fit.

Nowadays, it is as easy as ever to find the perfect fitness programme. With just a simple internet search, you can find the ideal fitness programme; many of which do not require any equipment for gym memberships.

Eat better

There is more to it than just working out to be healthier and get the body you want. It requires a combination of eating better by consuming healthy, nutrient dense foods, and physical activity. Cutting out junky food is a great place to start this new year.

Quit smoking

How many times has this been on your New Year’s resolution list? Well, 2018 is the year to stop, for real! There are plenty of over the counter nicotine replacement therapies. So as not to quit cold turkey, you could also try an electronic cigarette to help keep your nicotine cravings in check.

 Quit drinking

There is no harm in having a drink every now and again. However, having a drink regularly may be detrimental to your health and overall wellbeing.

Learn something new

Are you interested in photography or paining? Maybe you want to try Yoga? 2018 is the year you learn something new. Either join a class or else do some research online and teach yourself a new skill for New Year.

Travel more in the New Year

Sure, travelling can get quite expensive. However, nowadays there are a lot of cheaper options. Try travelling during low tourist season, book a flight with a cheap airline and stay at a hostel if need be! Travelling is good for your overall mental health as it gets you out of the rut of everyday routine and gives you something to look forward to.

Volunteer

It is time to give back. Helping others in need is a great and selfless New Year’s Resolution. You do not need to head overseas to volunteer (although you could potentially hit two birds with one stone if you do), but you could also join a local volunteer organisation. If your schedule does not permit, you can still help people who are in need by donating to charity.

Sleep more

Tired of being tired? 2018 is the year to get more ZZZ. Getting a proper night’s sleep can do all sorts of things, including keeping your metabolism going strong, help you concentrate better, and make you less likely to get sick.
